Loma - Monday, February 18, 2019

We had an earlier pickup today and stopped by the lumber yard for more supplies. Vic and I cut out and sanded pieces to build two more art tables. We also made doors and put them on the locking cabinet in the art room. I took pictures of the paved road into Loma village. We were told that many roads are being improved because of the 911 service.

Bea and Donna went to Kairos de Christo (Cangrejo) School in the morning. Bea got a quick tour to see the changes to the school and took pictures of some of our projects from past years. They then counted and sorted shoebox gifts for the children to receive tomorrow. They also began covering texts books with clear contact paper for protection.

After lunch we all returned to Loma, where we were locked out of the Community Centre, so we did a road tour of the village to see some of the houses built by Servant's Heart Ministries Teams. We had never before seen the extent of the village. We eventually got into the building and got back to work. Later on the group from Ridgetown, Ontario arrived for a briefing session and a tour. They will be building chicken coops for some of the families and doing VBS and other activities.

Sosua - Sunday, February 17, 2019

Another easy day, except for the intense HEAT. We moved our laundry, which didn't dry on our side of the building yesterday, to Vic's sunny side where it dried quickly. We went into the ocean again on the supposedly calmer side of the resort - it wasn't. So we went to one of the mini pools where we met a couple from Manitoba who are also doing mission work in the area. A team from Ridgetown (University of Guelph) arrived at the resort today but we haven't met them yet. We will meet them tomorrow in Loma where they will be building chicken coops.

Sosua - Saturday, February 16, 2019

We got to shut off the 7 a.m. alarm and lay in bed for half an hour. Bea missed hearing the amazing rain storm last night. It sounding like a lake was falling from the sky. Indeed, we learned later that some of the lower rooms had water come in under the doors. I heard just one enormous thunder-boomer. The resort's backup electrical generator cut in and out several times. After a light breakfast we walked over to the Jewish Synagogue & Museum, which should have been open (according to the sign) but it was not. Since we were out we continued on to the money exchange and obtained some pesos for later purchases. Bea did a bit of laundry in our bathroom sink and I ran a string between our patio chairs for a dryer. The remainder of the day was spent relaxing and checking out the pools and the sea and getting some sun.

Loma - Friday, February 15, 2019

Lots more carpentry and painting happened today. Bea was assisted by Dario in painting desks. John And Vic assembled the two shelf units for one of the classrooms and attached them to the wall. Bea and Kelvin performed the termite proofing duties. We ended up having an extra long day at Loma because the girls didn't arrive for the Bea's craft class until 5 p.m. We didn't get away until 6:30.

Oh well, it's Friday and the girls had a great time making their necklaces. One girl asked Bea if she was doing another craft with them. Unfortunately, that may be next year.
